Meeting Hana for the hana 1first time feels like a strange mix between running into an old friend and love at first site. At first glance you might notice their fierce platinum blonde hair and glittering nose piercing. At second glance you might admire how well they’re dancing about the room and how it kind of makes you want to dance too. On the third glance, you’ll probably realize they’re half naked. They do that. Clothes (although they’ve got a great sense of style) have only ever held them down.

Outside of dancing, Hana has a particular knack for just about everything. Amazingly, they cook food just as well as they describe it. The first chance you get to see their sketchbook you’ll probably be asking them to design your next tattoo. If you’re really lucky, you’ll get the chance to hear them sing and play piano, but they’re a well rounded musician with some stellar flute and ukulele skills as well. And their words, whether they be through poetry, prose, or lyric, never cease to hit you in the heart. They run fast, bike for miles and miles, stretch far, and yes, they even lift. With a history and future of triathlons and marathons, they’ve always been one for keeping fit.

Hailing from the Twin Cities, Hana has dreams that extend far beyond the snowy reaches of the Midwest. Depending on the day, they’ll tell you all about their passion for farming, their plans to hike the Appalachian Mountains, or even explore New Zealand. And they want to do it all while helping the planet and teaching others to do the same. As they’ve never been afraid to say, “none of this matters if we don’t have a place to live.”

When they’re not raving about the state of the environment or making you crave whatever they ate for dinner last night, they’re probably talking about the complicated nuances of gender identity or sharing their best pieces of sex advice. Most of their days they can be found sharing their wisdom over a glass of wine, dancing the night away, biking through the back trails of their college town Madison, and cooking and dancing about the kitchen. But when they’re doing none of those, you can pretty much guarantee they’ll have found some other new adventure. No matter where you find them, if they’ve got something to say to you, I can guarantee you’ll want to listen.
